Syrian Americans from the New York City area hold regular rallies outside the Syrian Embassy in Midtown Manhattans to protest against the violence their regime heaps onto their fellow countrymen and relatives back home. What impressed me most is that despite the severity of the violence in Syria, these protests have not only been absolutely peaceful, but also display a deep sense of humor and playfulness not often seen in protest events. Their rally cries, while mocking Bashar al-Assad and his regime also include calls for unity amongst Syrians of different stripes. Here are some impressions from those protests.
